With an aircooled engine the cooling system is the lifeblood of performance and longevity! An engine that operates at a high temperature or under several different uneven temperatures will never last as long or run as well as one that is kept stable and cool. Our line of DTM cooling kits does just that! The late Joe Locicero created the DTM design and after his death I picked up where he left off with R&D of the cooling systems. I first tested and proved that the Type IV DTM was the absolute best cooling system for the Type IV conversion engine in 2003. I did this after an extensive dyno test of 7 different cooling systems on the same engine with no changes made to it. The DTM had the lowest overall temperatures and the most stable temperatures all around the engine. The DTM also proved to be the most efficient system in the power department as well, pulling almost ½ as much power from the test engine top operate its fan than the best Porsche 911 system. The same holds true with our Type I DTM. This system demanded more development than the Type IV version but it is now just as effective at its job of creating lower engine temperatures as well as more stable all around temperatures. No matter what your application, The Type 4 Store has a cooling system for you. Choose from our Basic or Deluxe DTM kit available in both the original version as well as "V2" for the Type IV engine.

The original, or version 1 system is designed for engines that will not require an external oil cooler due to their size (under 140HP) or the operating climate (less than 85F ambient temps generally).

The Version two or "v2" kit is best suited to applications where a cleaner look is desired or the engine's output or operating environment are to exceed the V1's characteristics, requiring an external oil cooler to be added to the system. The V2 system offers the same cooling characteristics as the earlier system, but it does not include a provision for the stock Type 4 oil cooler, like the original V1 system does. This keeps the cost of the shroud kit lower, enhances the aesthetics of the shroud and works very well for those who either already have an external oil cooler, or plan to equip their vehicle with one.

V1 systems are not recommended for Porsche replicar applications, like the 356 Speedster and Spyder. The V1 is also not recommended for VW Bus conversions pre 1967. In these applications the V2 system provides the best fit with the least complications. Owners of genuine Porsche 356 and 912 vehicles should also use the V2 for the best fit into their vehicles.

The DTM is the only cooling system that is used on Aircooled Technology turn key engines, which are known for their ability to make big power while remaining cool, even in desert environments.
